Just an inquiry. Did Toys r Us sponsor any additional prizes for the tournament? Some of the kids were expecting "gift certificates to this world famous toy emporium". Thanks.

Yes, thanks for asking. I spoke to TRU and they donated P5000 worth of gift certificates. NBS management decided we would use those gift certificates as additional prizes in the September tournament...the big one...where we hope to draw 120 players.
But don't you think that GCs to a toy store would be appreciated only by kids in the 11 and Under and 8 and Under section? I think kids 12 and up are a bit too old for TRU. What do you think?

Let me speak cause it was my two boys' first time to join a tournament and they both didn't make it into the Top 10, so I'm not a subjective party.
Speaking from a parent's perspective, when you posted that GC's will be given, I told my kids that, in fact it was a good carrot for my younger one to join his first tournament. I think whether the GC is P50 or P500, the fact that we said GCs will be given and parents read that and most likely downloaded that info to their kids is gonna put the parents in a tough spot if the kids end up in the Top 10 and no GCs come their way.![]()
I respectfully suggest that we consider giving all the Top 10s (including 12 and up, I'm 35 and would still LOVE GC's from TRU) a token GC because we had already committed to it when we said: "our kids should expect gift certificates (from) this world famous toy emporium."
If we believe it is better to allocate more for the Sept tourney then I suggest we clearly communicate that the May to August tourney will not have GCs but only medals for the Top 10s. Management of expectations, I guess.
In any case, I would really like to commend the organizers, sponsors and people behind this event. It was professionally run and all the kids seem to have had lots of fun! Congrats to all.
