Cong. Pichay was the guest speaker in the 71st Season Chess Tournament of the UAAP last August 9, 2008 at the University of Santo Tomas. In his opening remarksh,he laid out his immediate plans for the UAAP collegiate players, namely, a. to make all the games in the league to be FIDE RATED 2) to move the calendar of the UAAP to January every year so it will not conflict with international tournament schedules. Many young players failed to join tournament abroad because of the UAAP schedules, thus missing the chance of international exposures. 3) to make the time control of the UAAP similar with the international standard so players will be use to playing under same time control. 4) A tournament format for the top 4 teams of the UAAP Juniors and seniors vs. top 4 teams in the NCAA Juniors and Seniors etc. Wow what a great plan for our collegiate chess . More power to our NCFP President.
